H-E-B intends to construct a new distribution and manufacturing center on San Antonio TX’s east side that would be the grocer’s largest single-build warehouse, according to an article in Supermarket News.
The San Antonio-based supermarket chain plans to invest at least $130 million over the next three years in the one-million-square-foot facility, according to an H-E-B spokesperson. This investment marks H-E-B’s largest to date for its supply chain and manufacturing branch.
The 871-acre site for the new distribution center will enable H-E-B to supply stores along the Interstate 10 corridor leading into Houston. According to the company, its needs are outgrowing the capacity of its current distribution and manufacturing facilities in San Marcos and on I-35 in San Antonio.
Around 300 new jobs would be created with the new facility, which will employ a total of 600 people when it is scheduled to begin operation in 2020.
H-E-B has more than 330 stores across Texas and almost 60 stores in Mexico.
